what’s the difference between strip wax and hot wax.

So what is the difference between srip wax and hot wax? Strip waxing is applied to the skin in a thin layer and removed with waxing strips. This is generally for less sensitive skin on areas such as arms, legs, back and chest. A dead layer of skin cells is removed with strip waxing. Hot wax is spread in thick layers onto the skin and allowed to dry. It is then pulled off removing only the hair with it. This results in less discomfort and is recommended for sensitive areas such as the bikini/brazilian and underarm or lip. The benefits are fewer ingrown hairs and less breakage which results in longer re-growth periods in between wax treatments.

How long should my hair be before waxing?

Ideally a couple of mm for the strip waxing as the strip needs to be able to latch on to the hair. So at least 2-3 weeks growth. However the hot wax can attach to shorter hairs, so as long as the hair has been growing for more than 10 days the wax will work.

What is waxing after care.

After waxing the skin is sensitive and the hair follicles are open for 24 hours therefore leaving the skin to settle is vital. Please see guidelines below on what to avoid for 24 hours.

  • No hot baths
  • No lotions or sprays
  • No sunbeds
  • No heat treatments
  • No touching the area.
  • Avoid sexual intercourse for 24 hours after intimate waxing
  • Avoid tight clothing if possible.
  • Avoid sweating or exercise
  • Exfoliate the skin when showering.

What can i do about ingrown hairs?

Ingrown hairs are unfortunately very common with all types of hair removal.. However exfoliating daily can minimise them. Checking the skin after waxing is recommended, for example scanning the waxed area and using tweezers to remove them as soon as possible is a good idea. Any tiny hairs that are just starting to poke through can potentially become ingrown hair. Therefore plucking these out on the day of waxing or the day after generally prevents them from growing back in. If they do grow in and fill up with pus creating lumps on the skin use a warm compress and then gently squeeze the lump so that the hair pops out. After that the skin generally heals well. Keep the skin well hydrated after showering.
